Replacement wheels with Vulkollan® coating – drive wheels with reworked belt groove re-covered
A customer sent us worn drive wheels from a machine with belt drive. The wheels consist of a turned aluminium wheel body with a directly machined belt groove - the drive is therefore part of the wheel body. The wheel body originally had a plastic tread, which was worn or had already come off. The wheel bodies themselves were still in perfect condition. Instead of new wheels, we re-covered the existing wheel bodies with a new Vulkollan® tread.
The background: for wheels with a machined belt groove, the wheel body is the complex component - groove profile, diameter and bore are matched to the machine, and there is no standard product. Only the tread is a wear part. Recoating therefore saves cost and time: the customer sends us the worn wheels, we remove the remains of the old tread, prepare the wheel bodies and apply Vulkollan® as the new tread. The finished wheels fit back into the machine without modification.
Design:
• Aluminium wheel body with machined belt groove and bore, supplied by the customer
• Old tread removed, wheel body cleaned and prepared for coating
• New tread made of Vulkollan®, firmly bonded to the wheel body
• Tread dimension according to the original or customer specification
• Belt groove remains unchanged - drive as before
Your advantages:
• Wheel body is retained - no new design, no adaptation to the machine
• Vulkollan®: high load capacity, very wear-resistant, grippy and low rolling resistance
• Significantly cheaper than complete new custom wheels
• Also possible for older machines and original wheels that are no longer available
Variants: Recoating is possible for almost all wheel bodies made of aluminium, steel or cast material - whether with a machined belt groove, toothed ring, keyway or plain bore. As a tread we supply Vulkollan® in various hardnesses, alternatively polyurethane or rubber; diameter, width and tread profile (cylindrical, crowned, with flange) to your specifications. If required, we also manufacture the wheel bodies new to sample or drawing.
Typical areas of use: drive and transport rollers in packaging, printing and textile machines, conveyor and feed units, test rigs, special-purpose machine construction.
Do you have worn wheels with an intact wheel body? Send us a photo or a sample wheel stating diameter, width and quantity - we will assess the recoating and provide you with a quotation.
