For a customer, we developed this double-flanged wheel as a custom-made product in a multi-part design. Unlike a classic wheel, where the tread is cast permanently onto the wheel body or vulcanised on, this wheel consists of three main parts: two turned metal side discs, which also serve as flanges on both sides, and a tread ring of Vulkollan® located between them. The side discs are clamped to the pitch circle with eight hexagon socket head screws and hold the tread ring securely and concentrically in position.

The background: with one-piece wheels, in the event of wear the complete wheel must be removed, pulled off the axle or hub and replaced with a new wheel. This takes time, often requires a press or puller and leads to longer machine downtimes. With the multi-part wheel, only the screws are loosened, the outer side disc is removed and the worn tread ring is replaced with a new one – the hub and inner disc can remain on the axle. Initial installation is also quicker, as no press fit or shrink fit is required.

Sizes and variants: the wheel shown is manufactured in Ø 300 × 80 mm with 50 mm tread. We can produce the same design up to an outside diameter of 500 mm and a width of up to 500 mm. Diameter, width, tread width, flange height, bore, keyway and drilling pattern are made to customer specification. In addition to Vulkollan®, polyurethane in various hardnesses, rubber or polyamide are also possible as tread materials; on request also without flanges or with a single flange.

Typical areas of use: rail-guided heavy-duty trolleys, crane systems and trolleys, conveyor technology, stage and plant construction, special machinery, as well as anywhere wheels are exposed to high wear and a quick tread replacement increases plant availability.
